Trimming lets you trim clips to the time that matters. Drag the in and out handles on the trim bar, or set them at the playhead from the toolbar or the keyboard. It's built for video coordinators, analysts and coaches who tighten cut-ups for installs, game planning and meetings.

Before you start
- You'll need Hub Pro 2.16 or later.
- Trimming is for Power User, Administrator and Super Administrator roles. Other roles don't see the trim controls, but they still play your trims.
- The list must be one you can edit and have saved. In an auto cut-up, an .xchange import, a temporary list or a read-only share, the scissors is greyed out.
- Works in the Hub Pro desktop app (Windows and Mac), in a browser and on iPad. On iPhone your trims play, but you can't set them.
Step 1: Turn on trim mode
- Open a list you can edit and pick the play you want to trim.
- Click the scissors
in the list toolbar. Its tooltip reads Trim mode.
- The scissors turns orange
, Set in point
and Set out point
appear beside it, and the scrub bar becomes an orange trim bar with a handle at each end.
Trim mode stays on. It stays on as you move from play to play, so you can trim a whole list in one pass. Click the scissors again to turn it off.
Step 2: Trim plays
- There are three ways to trim. Use whichever suits you; each change saves as soon as you make it.
- Drag the handles. Drag the left handle on the trim bar to your new in point and the right handle to your new out point. The picture follows the handle, and a badge such as In 00:11.2 confirms the new time when you let go.
-
Set them at the playhead. Scrub to the moment you want with the arrow keys or the trim bar, then click Set in point
. Scrub to where the play should end and click Set out point
. The tooltip shows the shortcut and the current time.
- Use the keyboard. Scrub to the moment and press Ctrl + 1 to set the in point, then Ctrl + 2 to set the out point. On a Mac, use Command + 1 and Command + 2.
- For frame-accurate control, click a handle and press the left or right arrow key to move it one frame. Shift + arrow moves it one second.
- Press the down arrow to move to the next play and keep trimming.
At least half a second. A trimmed clip has to be at least half a second long, and the in point has to come before the out point.
Step 3: Play your trims
- A scissors
next to the play name shows the play has a trim.
- Each trimmed play runs from its in point to its out point. Turn off trim mode to play the trimmed range.
- Trims are saved with the list, so everyone who opens it plays the same cut, on any platform.
- Trimming never changes the original video. Add trimmed plays to another list and the trims go with them. The copies are separate, so changing a trim in one list leaves the other alone.
Step 4: Remove a trim
- Select one or more plays, click the arrow
next to the scissors and choose Remove trim
. With several plays selected it reads, for example, Remove 2 trims.
- Or press Ctrl + 3 (Command + 3 on a Mac) to remove the trim from the play you're on.
- Removing the trim clears it from every angle of the play.
Changed your mind? Press Ctrl + Z to undo your last trim change and Ctrl + Y to redo it. On a Mac, use Command + Z and Shift + Command + Z.
Step 5: Trim on iPad
- Tap the scissors
in the list toolbar, just as on desktop.
- Drag the left and right handles on the trim bar with your finger. Each change saves when you lift your finger.
- In full screen, tap the scissors
in the player's control bar, drag your in and out points, then swipe to the next play.
- To remove a trim, tap the arrow
next to the scissors and choose Remove trim
. Use Undo
and Redo
in the toolbar to step back or forward.
No Set in or out buttons on iPad. On iPad you trim with the handles; the Set in point and Set out point buttons and their shortcuts are for desktop and browser.
Need a hand?
- Scissors greyed out? Hover over it to see why. The list is read-only for you, or it's an auto cut-up, an .xchange import or a temporary list. Add the plays to a list you've saved in a folder you can edit.
- No scissors at all? Trimming is for Power User, Administrator and Super Administrator roles. Ask your Hub Pro administrator.
- Can't trim a play far down a long list? Plays past the first 100 in a list can't be trimmed yet. Move them into a shorter list.
- See the whole clip while trimming? That's by design. Trim mode plays the full clip so you can move a handle outward as well as in. Turn trim mode off to play the trimmed range.
- Exporting to MP4? The exported file holds only the trimmed range of each play.
