FULL vs Client Only upgrades
FULL:
- Requires significant downtime compare to client only upgrades. (~3 hours or more)
- Server upgrade that is handled by a Catapult technician
- Requires all machines to be returned from Travel mode
- Drop/recreate subscriptions after the upgrade is complete
- ALL machines need to be upgraded
Client Only:
- Typically, can be done at your leisure
- Less downtime, approximately 5-10 minutes per client
- Can be done on machine on the network or off
- No need to recreate the subscription
- Not all machines need to be upgraded depending upon the build
When you are ready to do your upgrade, please call in with multiple dates & times that will work for your staff as your first choice may not be available. Keeping in mind that all clients need to be back from Travel mode otherwise you will have to XIMP out any work done on the clients not in the office during the upgrade.
If you are upgrading from Thunder 19 or earlier a technician will need to check your DB server to verify whether you’re already on the PFV schema. If you’re not already on this schema the upgrade process could take longer. We also need a leeway of 3-7 days (depending upon the size of your database) before hand to test the migration against your db.
A technician will download the installers to your XOS Share on your network, and if necessary, check your PFV status.
On the day of your upgrade, you can upgrade the clients while we upgrade the server. This can be done before, after or during the server upgrade, whatever suits you best. Until the server is complete no upgraded clients will be able to launch. We suggest you use Thunder Cloud during this time should any meetings need to take place. This should be in a read-only manner, so no data is lost.
Once the server upgrade is complete you should then drop, recreate the subscriptions, and restart ALL clients.
