Assigning Metadata to a Diagram
The sheer volume of diagrams a football staff manages to compile over time can be quite staggering. As such, teams need to rely on metadata (in this case, descriptive information about a diagram) to organize and retrieve diagrams quickly and accurately to insert into playlists or pull into reports.
The ability to support a database approach to the management of play diagrams is one of PlayTools’ most
important benefits. All diagrams in PlayTools support the assignment of textual descriptors (Personnel, Formation and Backfield, for example), as well as the association of different Field Values, as determined through system setup. The Field Values used to tag play diagrams are exactly the same Field Values as those used in data entry, and match to reports in GameAnalysis.
Basic Diagramming Operations
1. Open a diagram for editing.
2. Enter the desired data for the play.
3. Click Save.
A diagram’s Field Values can be changed on the Diagram Editing window, located under the Info tab.
The Field Values are entered through a grid where each column corresponds to a Field. The Fields associated with a diagram (and order in which they are displayed) are based on the Diagram Setup to which a diagram defines. Field Values can also be changed in bulk by using the Assign Field Value function within the Browse Results area of PlayTools.
To associate a Field Value with a diagram:
1. Open a diagram for editing.
2. Choose Field Values from the grid on the Info tab.
3. Click on the desired cell to input the correct data that matches your breakdown data.
Saving a Diagram
PlayTools does not save any changes until you explicitly instruct it to Save.
To save a diagram, you must either press the Save / Save As command in the top left section of the window, or use the Ctrl+S keyboard combination when the focus is on the Field.
You can tell if a diagram has been modified (but not yet saved) by observing the Diagram Editing window's caption. If a diagram has been modified, the caption will contain an asterisk ( * ) after the current diagram’s name. If you attempt to close the window when the diagram has been modified without being saved, PlayTools will prompt you to save the diagram before exiting.
