UPDATE: If you are experiencing connection issues with your Westwater remote due to this USB driver update, please update Thunder Football to either 24.1.2.25 or 25.1.2.45, or Thunder Hockey 25.2.1.2, to permanently resolve the connection issue. Builds newer than those also contain this update
Original Alert: As of September 2025, Westwater Remotes have received a driver version (2.12.36.20) that results in the remote not being listed in Thunder as a usable remote. This only affect systems configured to update drivers from Windows Update. To repair, uninstall the new driver to reinstall driver 2.12.26.4 by following the steps below. If this reoccurs frequently, teams' IT departments may need to be engaged to prevent the device from continuing to receive the update.
Restoring to a Previous Driver Version
- Right-Click the Windows Start icon and open Device Manager
- Expand the "Ports (COM & LPT)" section and the "Universal Serial Bus controllers" sections to see "USB Serial Port (COM#)" and "USB Serial Converter" listed
- Double-click "USB Serial Port (COM#) and navigate to the "Driver" Tab, then select "Uninstall", and when prompted select the box to remove the driver from device and select Uninstall
- Repeat the steps for "USB Serial Converter"
- Right-Click the computer name (or select the Action dropdown) and select "Scan for Hardware Changes"
- If it shows Other Devices > FT232R USB UART, run "Scan for Hardware Changes" again*
-
Once the remote shows as "USB Serial Port (COM#)", open the Properties and navigate again to the driver tab to confirm the driver version is no longer 2.12.36.20
Good versions include 2.12.36.4 and 2.12.28.0
