Install and Signing In:
Installing the app:
If your organization has not already installed the app on your iOS device, you can search for "Catapult ThunderCloud" in the Apple App Store app.
Signing in:
Sign in to the app using the email and password associated with the account provided by your video staff / administration. If you are signing in to the app without an internet connection, you can move the slider on the right from "Online" to "Offline". Users can remain signed in to the app offline for up to 7 days. After this point, you would need to reconnect to the internet and sign in using the online login to regain access.
Viewing Edits and Navigating Gameplans:
First, select the camera icon on the left-hand side of your screen titled "Video". Then, you can select "All Game Plans" in the white area on the left. This will display all of the different gameplans that you have access to.
If you are a user that has access to multiple groups or sides of ball, you will have the ability to switch between the groups you are part of by clicking on the group name above the white space. This will affect the gameplans shown on the screen.
Navigate through your gameplan folders until you find the edit you intend to watch. Then, click on the name of that edit to open it.
On iPad:
You will then see a screen that shows 1. the other edits in the folder you have navigated to (on the left) 2. the app's media player with the play you have selected (on the right) 3. the plays and associated data for the playlist you have open (on the bottom). You can select different plays or playlist items on the bottom to load them into the media player.
On iPhone:
When you select an edit, it will first display a list of the plays or items in that edit playlist, and data associated with those plays:
You will then have to tap on one of the items in that playlist to play it:
Media Player Controls:
- The box with the arrows around it will toggle the full and half screen media player on iPad, and will toggle the media player itself on iPhone.
- The pen icon will toggle the ability to draw on the media player screen.
- Toggling it on, drawing, then toggling it off will erase your drawings.
- The camera icon will take a screenshot of the media player at that frame in the video and allow you to save the screenshot, or share it via a number of apps on your device.
- The circle and line below the media player indicate the timeline and your current position on the timeline of the current clip. You can drag it around to scrub through the current clip.
- Swiping left or right on your screen will allow you to skip to the next clip in your view sequence, or previous view respectively.
- The large triangle or play icon on the right of the media player, when tapped, will start playing the current clip. It will change into a pause icon when the video is playing, which can be tapped again to pause playback.
- The single triangle on the left of the media player can be held to rewind through the current clip.
- The double triangles on either side will more quickly rewind or fast-forward through the current clip.
- The triangles with lines will play back the current clip very slowly forwards or backwards if held, and if tapped will allow you to parse through the current clip frame-by-frame.
- On iPad, you will also see double triangles with the number 5 on them, which will skip 5 seconds forward or backwards on the current clip.
- On iPad, you will also see another triangle and bar icon at the top of the full-screen media player that will skip to the next of previous clip in your view sequence, just like swiping on the screen does.
- On iPhone, the eject button will eject the current edit and take you back to the screen that shows the existing edits in the folder you have navigated to.
Managing Headings and Headings Groups:
On both iPhones and iPads, users can swipe left or right on the headings shown on an edit to scroll through all available headings in the applied headings group. This can be done at any time with an edit open, regardless of device.
When the media player is not in full-screen on iPad, and the media player is not open on iPhone, users can tap on a heading to sort the plays within the open playlist by up to 5 different fields at a time. The order of taps on the same heading will sort playlist items as follows:
1 tap = sort alphabetically ascending
2 taps = sort alphabetically descending
3 taps = sort by frequency ascending
4 taps = sort by frequency descending
5 taps = original playlist sorting
Users can also clear existing sorts on the playlist by opening the Headings Menu and selecting "Clear All Sorts".
Headings Menu:
When the media player is not in full-screen on iPad, and the media player is not open on iPhone, users can hold their finger down on a heading to open the Headings Menu. This section will detail the different tools and functions available in this menu.
Choose Headings Group:
Here, users can apply a different headings group to the open playlist. Users can choose from any headings group available to the groups they have access to within Thunder.
Choose View Sequence:
Here, users can apply any of the view sequences that exist in their database to the open playlist. This setting remains set even between different edits, but will reset to All when the app is restarted.
Quickie Stats:
Here, users can generate simple statistic reports based on specific data regarding the data on the plays in the open playlist. It is important to note that this tool will only be able to use data from the fields included in the active headings group.
Once you hit Quickie Stats, you will be greeted with a menu that allows you to check off the fields you want to use for your Quickie Stats report:
Once you hit Run, the tool will generate a breakdown of the plays with the criteria you have specified:
You can then select any row within the generated chart, and you will be able to view a playlist of the specific plays from the original playlist that match the criteria you have specified. (For the pictured example, the 29 plays where pff_DOWN = 1 and pff_DEFPACKAGE = NICKEL were selected)
If you would like to exit the Quickie Stats playlist you have constructed, just open the Headings Menu again and select "Clear Quickie Stats".
Filtering:
At the bottom of the Headings Menu, you can utilize a search bar to search for a specific value within a field. The field that you search is dictated by the heading you hold down on to open the Headings Menu. The filtered field is indicated in the data sheet by an asterisk (*) to the right of it's name. You can also continue scrolling down in the Headings Menu to view and then filter by all of the existing values for the field you have selected.
Some numeric fields will also allow you to use a scroll bar at the bottom of the Headings Menu to filter by a specific range of values, instead of one single value:
To clear active filtering on the playlist and restore it to it's original state, return to the Headings Menu and select "Clear All Filters".
Lastly, the Headings Menu will also provide a sum and average for some numeric fields in the playlist:
Entering Data onto Plays:
On iPads only, users with appropriate permissions can enter data into fields within the ThunderCloud iOS app. This can be done by setting the media player to full-screen on a play, and selecting the lock icon in the top-left of the screen. Users can then select the white box underneath individual fields (headings) and type in new data. To save changes to field values on the current play, the (unlocked) lock icon in the top-left must be toggled again. Data modification is done per-play, so either the lock icon must be locked again to save changes before moving on to the next play in the open edit, or users can just move to the next play in the open edit and will receive a prompt giving them the ability to save their data changes to the play.
Managing Edits in the iOS App:
In the iOS app, you will notice flag icons and a save button on the left-most side of a play in the data sheet. You can "flag" a play by tapping the flag icon on a play, which will turn it red. To "un-flag" a play, simply tap the same icon, and it will no longer be red. "Flagging" plays in the iOS app works as a method of selecting plays in an open edit. Flags on a playlist will remain as they are set until the app is restarted.
Once you have "flagged" the plays you want within an edit, you can hit the save button on the left to do one of the following:
- Save those plays as an edit in your current gameplan's hot folder
- Save those plays as an edit in your My Folders
- Add those plays to an existing edit in your current gameplan's hot folder
- Add those plays to an existing edit in your My Folders.
If you select either of the "Add to edit" options, you will need to navigate through your folder structures to find the edit you want to add the selected plays to. Then, select the edit, and hit the "Done" button in the top-right. The app will then ask you if you would like to add the selected plays to either the beginning of the destination edit, or the end of the destination edit.
If you select either of the "Save to" options, you will be prompted to name the new edit you are creating. Then, you will need to navigate to the folder you would like to save the new edit in, and hit "Done" in the top-right. In this menu, you can also switch between the groups / sides of ball you have access to, if necessary.
Notes:
- If you flag a play or multiple plays, and then hit the "change edit" button, this will prompt the message "Exiting Gameplan. You are about to exit the gameplan, would you like to save your new edit first?" You get the options "Cancel" or "OK".
- Selecting "Cancel" will prompt you to name and save the flagged plays as an edit within the current gameplan's hot folder. OK does nothing except show the contents of the folder you're in.
- We understand that the working in this specific workflow is misleading and confusing. The wording/prompts will be adjusted in the future.
Managing Media in the iOS App:
Downloading Media for Offline use:
To download an edit in order to access it without an internet connection within the app, you can navigate to the edit, and tap the blue "i" icon to the right of the edit name, then select the "Download Locally" button that appears.
To monitor ongoing downloads, select the settings icon on the left of the screen, then select Downloads. Here you will be able to see edits you have downloaded previously listed at the top (in the EDITS section), the associated media assets for those edits (in the MEDIA section), and ongoing downloads (also in the MEDIA section with the cloud icon with the spinning arrows).
Downloaded media in the iOS app will remain downloaded on the device until it is manually deleted, the app is uninstalled from the device, or the specified expiration date if the media was downloaded via ThunderCloud surge. (A guide for this workflow is available here: SSO - Surge to iPad Guide)
Deleting Downloaded Media:
To delete downloaded media manually, navigate to the downloads section as detailed above, then tap the blue "Edit" button in the top-right corner of the screen. You then have the option to select specific media assets that you have downloaded and delete them, or you can tap the red "Delete All" button in the top-left corner to delete all downloaded media assets at once. Both methods will ask you confirm that you are sure you want to do this, to which you can cancel out of or hit OK to continue with the deletion.
